I figured, what's the point in making a million topics which nobody is going to care about. Here's the thread for everything metalcore.
I usually take wikipedia with a grain of salt, but this page is really good and I agree with it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalcore
Love it or hate it, it's the main attraction in the American "metal" scene these days... and it's not even as popular as it was 4-5 years ago anymore. It has shaped many other modern genre definitons into something completely different from the original (melo-death and tech-death especially). It has brought "metal" closer to the mainstream since the 80's and early 90's. You can't deny the huge impact this genre has had on the music we listen to and our fellow "metalheads."
--------------------------------------
Some metalcore albums I really like:
Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake
Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
Still Remains - Of Love And Lunacy
Avenged Sevenfold - Waking the Fallen
All That Remains - This Darkened Heart
As I Lay Dying - Shadows Are Security
Trivium - Ascendancy
Killswitch Engage - Alive or Just Breathing
Killswitch Engage - End of Heartache
Haste The Day - Burning Bridges
The Red Chord - Clients
Killwhitneydead - Never Good Enough For You
and if you count these as such:
In Flames - Come Clarity
Soilwork - Stabbing The Drama |

I like Unearth, Bullet for my Valentines older stuff and scream aim and fire, Mygrain if you would count them Avenged Sevenfold is ok and Iwrestledabearonce Though I wouldn't call them Metalcore.
I didn't know that it originally referred to Crossover bands though that is interesting. |

Yeah, I never understood why "crossover" is the name of the genre. Cross-over is what you do between two genres and what they did was cross hardcore and thrash metal... thus, METALCORE. |

I used to really like AoTW my problem with LoG came AFTER that album. I did enjoy a lot of the riffs on as the palaces burn and ashes of the wake and i found them enjoyable for a time. But their recently material has turned me majorly against them And the fact that most of their fans prefer their recent material makes me hate them even more...
I still enjoy their live dvd though. It is fucking hysterical. |

MARK MORTON..... GET READY FOR THE SUCKER PUNCH!
Yeah I'm much the same. I had to listen to Sacrament over and over to like it... and it's still not an album I put in the CD player. I only listened to Wrath once, but I remember liking it a bit more than Sacrament. I need to give it another shot.
I'd rather listen to AotW or AtPB like you said. AotW has some fucking great drumming on it.
This song is what really got me into LoG though. That part at 2:15 kicks so much ASS!!!:

It's practically cross-over, not metalcore to me... except that I consider cross-over as metalcore. |

I think when they write melodic riffs and psedo thrash riffs with technical parts they do it really well, and thats what drew them to me
11th hour is still a badass song IMO |

eh.. I can see what you mean about overrated, but I really don't surround myself with people who worship LoG like that. From a purely personal standpoint I think the drums are written really well to compliment the music and have a lot of cool creative shit going on. It's not AMAZING drumming, but it's definitely better than most others in metalcore. |

I agree. Though BTBAM has gotten farther away from metalcore with every album. |

I swear they should be classified as prog metal by this point. Their new album had hardly any core riffing or vox, or so it seemed to me. Perhaps it's been too long since I've actually sat down and listened to a core band to judge, regardless though I guess it all falls down to opinion on these guys.
I seriously defy anyone to perfectly define their genre with all the shit they throw in lol. |

People still call them metalcore, so I put it in here regardless. It is true though that they are hardly metalcore anymore and probably should get put on MA eventually. |
